With the introduction of arthroscopic surgery – in lay terms, “keyhole operations” – surgical treatment of the knee joint became immediately the major focus of the medicine. Professor Freddie Fu, head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA, was a leading figure in this process.

Dr Braune completed a fellowship there in 2004, and had the opportunity to review his level of knowledge and learn new surgical techniques. By attending further in- house and national training courses he could gain an expertise for knee joint conditions and methods of treating them.
