Tendon calcification (tendinosis calcarea)

Causes
Currently the causes for this condition are not yet clearly known. Generally, tendon calcification involves three stages: the formation stage, the extant stage, and the dissolution stage of the calcareous deposit.

Symptoms
Typical is a dull pain in the shoulder concerned caused by pressure. Once the calcareous deposit intrudes into the bursal sac, the mobility of the shoulder is painfully and completely blocked.

Possible therapies
Depending on the degree and stage of the condition, either extra-corporal shock wave therapy or surgical removal of the calcareous deposit should be considered.
