Ischemia of the subchondral bone (osteochondritis dissecans)

Often, growth-related factors trigger this illness. However, the effects of such accidents as major sprains may also be the cause.

Most common is pain that is triggered by stressing or straining the joint.

Possible therapies
The treatment is aimed to prevent further progressing of this condition, which would lead to the separation of the cartilage-bone fragment. For this purpose, an attempt is made to reverse the swelling in the bone which causes a reduction in blood flow to the affected area. This is done by means of an endoscopic examination, and subsequent drilling into the defective area.
